Our key tips for properly maintaining your green space!
Tip #1 – Choose the right time to plant your plants
First of all, the best time to plant is spring. Although some plants can be planted throughout the year, it is strongly advised to avoid the period from July to August, and preferably all summer if it is very hot in your area.
Also, if you want to plant, you will need to prepare the soil in your garden ensuring you have a good amount of nutrients. Keep in mind that garden soils lose fertility over time, which means a continuous supply of nutrients to your home throughout the year.
Tip #2 – Be very careful with watering!
When you finish the planting phase of your favorite plants, you must be very careful with watering. Indeed, a good quantity of water is necessary at the right time, and more particularly during the initial phase of plant development. Beware of excessive and frequent watering, as this will smother your little plants.
As soon as you see signs of wilting, immediately apply the appropriate fertilizers to stimulate the plants. You need to measure and apply the correct amount because, like water, too much fertilizer can burn your plants’ roots.
Tip #3 – Weeding and pruning: two good habits to adopt
If you see weeds, act as soon as possible. Weeding and pruning are necessary habits that should not be neglected.
Indeed, the extremities can be infected by the strong winter wind or burned by the sun. What to do: Simply cut out the injured parts. If you don’t, infections will spread and progress will constantly fail. Small scissor cuts won’t take forever and could save the life of your plants!
And on the aesthetic side, this time, if you notice that some of your plants are growing out of control, you can cut some branches to make them uniform.
Tip #4 – Keep your tools clean!
Be sure to use clean tools when weeding to avoid transmission of bacterial and viral diseases. So, to protect your garden from possible infections, always clean pots, vases, gloves, scissors and all garden equipment, to limit the spread of germs.
For this, you should use a good disinfectant like chlorine or bleach to sanitize your tools.
Tip #5 – Protect your plants!
The installation of wooden barriers and suitable cladding boards is necessary to prevent pests, in particular insects, animals or even children who could accidentally pick or crush a pretty flower. Therefore, the use of garden wood, as mentioned a little above, is highly recommended not only to have a pleasant and well-kept view of the garden, but also to protect your green space from external threats.
