How to breed oregano by dividing the bush
Bush division is a very interesting way to reproduce the oregano plant. For this we are going to need pots, either to transport the plant to another area of the garden, or to have a pot with oregano in our flower pot or just in the kitchen window and use fresh oregano when we cook.
In addition to one or more pots, depending on the plants you want to extract, you need some good substrate, a small hoe and a knife.
The first thing we do before starting to reproduce oregano by dividing the bush is to water our plant well. Thanks to irrigation, we will be able to bring out the roots well, damaging them as little as possible. I recommend doing this irrigation a few hours before, but if possible at least a little before starting.
As you can see in the video, sometimes these new stems and their roots can be removed by hand, but if necessary and to get, as you can see, a good root ball it is good to have a hoe and a knife, it is enough in case we might need both, or if the soil is not softened enough or the roots are too strong.
The important thing is to damage the roots as little as possible. What I do, as you can see, is cut a whole area or portion of soil, quite deep, and with the same knife or hoe I pry up to remove the plants with their roots ready to be transplanted.
We plant in a pot
What we will do, once we have one or more clumps of oregano cut, is to place them in slightly larger pots. We place the whole root ball at the bottom and with the extra soil we fill the side spaces of the pot.
We also cover the stems a bit to make sure the plant is healthier and stronger, and we add more substrate between the stems to get new roots.
It is important that it is well fixed, tightening the substrate well, but avoiding going too far and without weighing down the soil too much.
Irrigation
Finally, we apply good irrigation, which I always recommend when planting or transplanting, to ensure that our plant settles well in its new space, suffers less from transplanting, and to eliminate any pockets of air.
The first two weeks we water a lot, checking that the necessary humidity levels of the plant are met. But after this time, watering once or twice a week will suffice, otherwise our plant could contract fungus on its roots or they could rot, all because of excess watering and humidity. Remember that oregano is a plant that tolerates heat and drought fairly well.

Just as attention should be paid to irrigation and humidity requirements during the first two weeks, direct sun should also be avoided. We will keep them in partial shade, to take care of them and see how they develop. After this time, they can be placed in a sunnier area, as the plants like and aromatic crops in general.
When to Breed Oregano
We can reproduce oregano in this way both in the middle of spring and in autumn, which are the two times when the temperature changes from cold to warm and from warm to cold allow us to do so and our plant is there sufficiently responsive and strong.
