One of the best things about houseplants is that they can add so much to your home decor. They provide texture, color, interest and variety.
The same should apply to the pots you put your plants in. I’m obsessed with simple, modern design when it comes to home decorating, and I love using modern indoor planters to accentuate the simple style.
It has taken us a long time to properly furnish our home because we like to constantly review our options and make every decision well thought out. It really makes me happy to choose decorative accessories like planters because they give any room a complete and warm touch.
I’ve selected some of my favorite modern indoor pots for displaying plants that I hope you enjoy too.
A simple rectangular planter in a hallway can do a lot for your home. This pot from Lechuza (link to Amazon) caught my eye for its simple style and good proportions. In fact, it also waters automatically, which is a great option if you sometimes forget to water your plants a bit and when you go on vacation.
I have my cast iron plant proudly displayed in a 10ft tall gray pot in my entryway which I adore. A large planter on the floor can look great, or a smaller planter like this looks great on an entryway table.
Perfect for a table or windowsill, this pretty muse’s compact planter is perfect for a calm and serene home. The color scheme is fantastic against the green foliage.

Creating tight geometric patterns and a clean color palette, this ceramic pot really stands out for me. It’s right up my alley. Note that this pot, as well as most of the others I have chosen on this page, does not have drainage holes.
I always use this type of pot as an outdoor pot, and place my plant in a plastic indoor pot with drainage holes. It makes watering so much easier, as I can take my plant to the sink, remove the plastic pot from the decorative pot, and water under the tap.
Just be sure to let it drain for a few minutes after watering so that when you replace it, there won’t be a puddle at the bottom of the decorative pot.
While many people use a decorative planter with drainage holes and then place it over a drip tray, I always worry that the drip tray will overflow and ruin my floor. You can always carefully drill a hole in the bottom of this pot or another ceramic pot if you prefer a drainage hole.
Metals are always a wonderful way to accentuate a room’s decor, as long as you don’t overdo it. This gold planter from Pebble and Peach adds a touch of luxury and I think it would look great in a living room or hallway.
I love the simplicity of this copper planter. Copper seems to be very popular in interior design at the moment and it looks great against the white wall. The detailing around the top makes it stand out and is well proportioned for a side table.
Mid-century planters seem to be everywhere these days, and I love that modern twist with the iron stand instead of the more common wooden stand.
It’s no surprise that this style of planter has become so popular again, and of course it’s the same with many styles coming back into style decades after they were last popular.

I tend to have pretty secure interior design tastes, so obviously this wouldn’t be a planter I would choose. However, I’m still drawn to it and think it would go well in my living room.

I am always amazed at how difficult it can be to find vases, planters and other decorative pieces. Sometimes the simpler something is, the harder it is to get it right. I think this jar is perfect.

I am generally a big fan of LSA glassware and own a few of their vases. They are still my go-to brand when I need quality glassware. Expensive, but a real statement piece. I have seen terrarium setups on Pinterest using the Eden terrarium and they look amazing.

People love to display their succulents in a quirky and interesting way, and I think this is a great option for providing an interesting display on a side table. It’s large enough for a succulent to have plenty of room to grow, yet small enough to capture the cute look that so many people go for with their succulents.
This is another self watering planter I have found. Simple and discreet, it will look great on your kitchen window sill.
I love harvesting fresh herbs from my indoor herb garden when cooking, although I tend to use the Aerogarden Harvest 360, which makes it easy to grow herbs indoors year-round .
When I was done, I chose another mid-century planter, this time with a more traditional wooden stand. I chose this one because the quality is very good and it looks fantastic.
