Is lychee sun or shade?
It is important to place the plant in an area with good sun exposure, the more light it receives throughout the day the better. Lychee is a plant that needs full sun to thrive. Indeed, lychees need a lot of sun for their fruits to ripen properly. Given their tropical origin, they also need warm, humid temperatures to thrive. If planted in shade or cold weather, the plant will not produce fruit.

As I tell you in the video, the lychee reaches great vigor, easily exceeding 10 meters in height. So, if you decide to plant several lychee trees, you should plant a frame of at least 5 meters or more between them and the corridors, to prevent the branches from shading each other, harming the ripening of the fruit.
Lychee Plant: Things to Keep in Mind for Improving Fruit
Out of curiosity, I will tell you that it is not important to achieve a very marked training size in the first years of the litchi’s life. Although if we leave an initial structure of two or three arms, it will favor the development of new shoots and lateral vegetation during development.
It is not a plant that needs a lot of care. It is very important that you pay attention to two factors that will be decisive in its development and production. One of them is the subscriber, which, unlike what happens in other fruit trees, must be very controlled. Being more necessary during the first three years a contribution of NPK, for the vegetative development. From the fourth year, combine it with micronutrients such as boron, iron, copper and zinc.
In adult trees, it is recommended to pay from the moment of flowering until the month after the fruit harvest. It is very important to stop the supply of nitrogen the rest of the year, to encourage the tree to produce more fruit and less vegetative development.
The other key factor in lychee cultivation is irrigation control. As I mentioned in the video, it must be abundant in summer, preferably daily watering, to maintain soil moisture, but without flooding the soil.
The reason for such constant irrigation is that lychee, like kiwi, has a superficial root system, which in hot weather, in which water evaporates from the soil more easily. This is why it may have more difficulty extracting water and nutrients with its roots. However, the rest of the year, irrigation should be reduced to once or twice a week, depending on the climate of the area, managing to subject the plant to a certain water stress that will result in greater flowering. of our culture.
With these two golden rules, success in lychee cultivation is guaranteed, so I encourage you to plant and maintain this curious and exotic fruit, which will also bring additional ornamental value to your orchard or garden when it blooms.
Although the fruit picking season is short, you can store the fruit in the refrigerator for a few weeks, and if you freeze it, due to the thickness of its skin, its pulp will remain intact for a year.
