The calendula extract that we are going to see is a very simple way to have plants that are much healthier, more vigorous and resistant to pest attacks.

We already know that calendula has a lot of health properties, and we have already talked about this plant many times. I recommend articles on this culture, starting with how to get the calendula seeds, when to plant marigolds and the benefits of marigold plant in the garden.
And one of the advantages is that we can make this extract, because in the garden we prepare not only home remedies to fight parasites or all kinds of preparations to add nutrients to our crops, but there are other types of preparations that we can make that will help us make our plants more resistant to attacks by pests or diseases.
Calendula extract for plants
Calendula has many uses to prepare medicinal remedies for people, thanks to its multiple properties, and it is also a plant that can be used to prepare digestive infusions and use many of its benefits, or even prepare recipes with this flower.
On this occasion, we will see how to prepare this invigorating extract and how to apply it to crops. For this we will need about 500 grams of calendula plants. You don’t need the flowers or the roots, and we can also use the flowers to make a pest control macerate or to make natural remedies.

The leaves and stems should be fresh, so we’ll prepare them the same day we cut them. On the other hand, we need 5 liters of water and an opaque container to mix.
With this type of preparation, as we have already seen in the case of tomato pureehe horsetail manurehe nettle porridge and the russian comfrey purineit is best to do this with rainwater, but if you do not have or have not had time to recover it, you must let the tap water stand for at least 24 or 48 hours so that the chlorine evaporates.
prepare the extract
To make the most of all the properties of calendula and to make the extract much more effective, it is important to chop the plants well, so that there is more of their surface in direct contact with the plant. ‘water.
Once we have chopped our marigold plants well, the next thing to do is add the water to start the fermentation process.
It is very, very important to stir the mixture daily, stirring is essential because it must be oxygenated to prevent it from rotting and producing the desired fermentation, which lasts 7 days. During this time, we must discover and remove at least 5 minutes a day. And if it can’t be daily, we will do it at least every other day.
Once removed, we cover our extract so that impurities or insects do not enter and we will leave it in a partially shaded place.
After 7 days, we check that the extract is already prepared. It shouldn’t smell of rot and will barely have any fermentation bubbles. This means it is now ready to filter and use.
Filtering it is very simple, we will only need a cloth colander or an old t-shirt, and what we have left (i.e. the pieces of the plant) we will put it directly in the compost.

How to Use Calendula Extract in the Garden
Calendula extract is used diluted in water, and the ratio is 1 to 10, that is, one part of our extract to 10 parts of water.
As with many preparations, if you do not want to use the extract at this time or it is too much, you can keep it. Although the most advisable and ideal is to use it in our crops at the same time of filtering it. If we want to store it, we can do it in a container in a shady place. In this case, we do not dilute it.
The way to apply it is like the irrigation of our plants, it does not need to be as abundant as normal irrigation. And in a few days we will be able to see how the plants will gain much more vigor and strength.
Something that is very interesting and that I recommend is to apply these risks to plants that are seen to be weaker or less developed than the others.
Undoubtedly, marigold extract for garden plants is an effective invigorator, which will give them more strength and make them much stronger to resist possible future pests.
