How to make compost tea

Making compost tea is very simple, as you can see below in the video. The ratio is 5 parts water to 1 ½ parts compost.

As seen in the video, I use and recommend rainwater to prepare this fertilizer, since tap water is very likely to contain chlorine, and therefore it will damage the microorganisms that we want to add to the plants and the ground.

If we don’t have rainwater to make our compost tea, we will let our water sit for a few days for the chlorine to evaporate.

Step by step

We put the compost in a cloth bag to prepare our tea. We put it in a bucket and put the water. It is important that the fabric bag can be closed, or if it does not have a closure, a rope or a thick cotton thread is simply added.

Once we put our compost in the bag and the water covers it, we will stir it with a wooden stick for 5 minutes every day, and we will do this for four days. It is important to remove it with a wooden stick and avoid iron as it may negatively affect bacteria.

It is also important to leave it in the shade and in a cool place.

On the fourth day, after always stirring daily, we empty the bag and we have already prepared our compost tea. The contents of the bag can be discarded in the compost or we can place it on a standing terrace.

Apply Compost Tea to Plants

To apply the compost tea we can do it in two ways, one foliar and the other in irrigation.

At foliar level, it is applied on plant leaves to add beneficial organisms to plant surfaces so that pathogens and pathogenic pests cannot find infection sites or food sources and provide nutrients such as leaf food to the plant .
