When to Plant Night Lady Seeds
The first thing you need to know about everlasting lady of the night seeds is the perfect time to plant them.
Generally, the best time to do this is in March, when the premiere begins and the plants are activated. Now, a lot will depend on the weather you will have. If it is still cool where you live and the hours of sunshine are not yet completely “warm”, it is better that you wait a few weeks (for the beginning of April).
In any case, there are those who planted them in May and succeeded. Our recommendation is not to plant them in summer (when the temperature is already quite high) because they may not be successful (or they will be weaker to withstand high temperatures).
How to sow lady night seeds
You already have more or less the date when you should plant them. And now it’s time to find out how to do it. In fact, sowing lady seeds at night is not complicated. But it has some peculiarities that must be taken into account to avoid problems.
Therefore, we will take it step by step and you will get the best results.
Lady of the Night Seed Collection
You will probably have obtained lady seeds at night in the fall, which is when. But it could also be that you bought them at another time of the year.
Anyway, these seeds are not very large (just like a grain of corn) so it is common to plant them in small groups. Of course, if they all grow, you will need to separate or dispose of the specimens.
Germinate the seeds of the lady of the night
At the time of planting them, for you to have more success, it is necessary to tell you that it is preferable, at least 24 hours before doing it, to immerse them in lukewarm water.
In case you didn’t know, Lady of the Night seeds have a shell, and it’s quite difficult. Which means that when it comes to wanting to leave the factory, if he doesn’t get a little help, it will cost a lot more.
That said, our recommendation is:
- Put a glass of warm water and put the seeds in it for at least 24 hours.
- When the time is up, take out the seeds one by one and, with a knife or a file, rub the ends a little so that it can move forward more quickly.
Some do point two before point one. Another option is to do it this way and put them back in the water for another 24 hours after depositing to better activate them.
plant the seeds
You’ve already germinated the seeds, or at least started the process. And therefore, the next step you need to take is to plant them so that they begin to grow.
In this sense, there are several points to consider:
- Flower pot. Use a not very big pot (you will have small plants that later, when they are stronger, you can transplant). Make sure there are holes in the bottom for water to drain.
- Substrate. The best thing is that you bet on one with a lot of nutrients, but that also allows you to keep the soil moist (not flooded) so that they germinate better.
Once you have it ready, know that the seeds of the lady of the night should be planted about 1 centimeter deep, no more. If the plants are too low, the only thing you’ll get is that they take longer to emerge (if at all).
So, the best thing to do is to fill the pot, put the seeds in it and lightly cover the top with soil.
the first watering
Both the first watering and the following ones until you see that the plant is already stronger, we advise you to do this by spraying the water. This way you won’t move the soil too much or cause the seeds to move (or not be visible).
the first transplant
After the 15 days that you will see them germinate, you will need a little more time to be able to handle the seedlings. This means that you will need to let them grow at least until they have a few leaves.
When you see that they are strong and can get ahead, plant them, either separately or together, but respecting a distance of 30 cm between each one.
care of the lady of the night
Finally, we leave you as a summary of the most important care:
- Location. Outdoors and in partial shade. If you put it in full sun you will have a harder time getting it to flower.
- Temperature. It tolerates heat very well, but not cold. So if the temperature drops below 0º, it is better to protect it to avoid losing it.
- Irrigation. In summer, it is recommended that it be every other day. In winter, it will be enough once or twice a week.
- Subscriber. In spring and summer. An iron-rich fertilizer mixed with irrigation water is best.
- Size. It is advisable to do this after flowering, because in this way you will make it start again. But be careful, as this can wear out the plant.
- harmful. Watch out for aphids, red mites and whiteflies.
How long does the lady of the night take to grow
Now that you’ve planted them, do you want to know when you’ll see the results? The lady of the night is a plant that grows quickly, but takes its time.
As a rule, 15 days after planting it will begin to germinate. You will see that very fragile thin green stems come out of the ground.
After 1-2 weeks they will already have leaves and from there they will continue to grow.
Of course, keep in mind that if you put several seeds in a pot and they all germinate, you may need to make a selection and keep the strongest ones, discarding the rest. This is done to prevent them from sharing nutrients and encourage the growth of only a few specimens.
If you don’t want to “kill” them, you can always sow them more separately or take the ones you throw away and put them in another pot to see if they come out on top.
As you can see, the seeds of the lady of the night are not difficult to sow. If you follow the instructions we gave you, you won’t have any problems. It will take a while to get even a young specimen, let alone one that is flowering, but the wait is surely worth it. Have you ever planted lady of the night?
