Poulan Pro PP5020AV, an inexpensive but solid chainsaw
The Poulan brand has been around since 1944 and, like many others, the company later expanded into garden tools. Thanks to the powerful two-stroke and four-stroke engines in their machines, the tools are extremely durable. The Poulan Pro PP5020AV is an inexpensive gas chainsaw, but its performance and efficiency are lacking. This tool reminds us of Husqvarna chainsaws, and that’s no coincidence, as the Swedish horticultural giant owns Poulan. As a result, you get comparable quality at a significantly lower price.
The chainsaw is equipped with a Duralife 50cc 2-stroke engine. This very economical engine generally runs very cleanly. You shouldn’t have any mechanical problems for years. This is partly due to the anti-vibration system which not only contributes to operator fatigue, but also contributes to the longevity of the power source. Most chainsaw models these days have some sort of feature that makes the starting process easier, and Poulan has a similar solution here.
One or two pulls should be enough to start the engine at any time. Weighing 15.5 lbs, the PP5020AV is not particularly heavy and ideal for medium-duty jobs. No Poulan chainsaw review can be complete without discussing the possible downsides. This chainsaw is a great tool, but if there’s one problem, you probably guessed it, it’s the chain.
If you use this chainsaw correctly and take good care of it, you should be able to get good miles even with the stock chain. That said, if you can afford a better chain in the main purchase, you might want to replace it before you start. It may seem a little harsh, but the chain is always the weak point of chainsaws, and that is especially true for this model, so better be prepared for it.
