Facom 990.B4

Almost unlimited! With its 990.B4, Facom offers a bolt cutter capable of carrying out any task, whether cutting twisted iron, threaded rods or even large padlocks. Its high performance chrome steel blades allow it to process many types of metal parts and has also been designed to optimize longevity. Its long handles (the tool is 1050 mm long) are perfectly ergonomic to offer the resistance but also the comfort sought during use (with protections for example), especially since it is a clamp that still weighs 8.6 kg! ! Finally, the clearance of the blades is regulated by eccentric screws, while a specific treatment has been applied to the body to reduce the clearance.
My opinion : Would it really surprise you if I told you that these Facom bolt cutters are some of the most powerful I’ve ever gotten my hands on? The brand is already known for its excellent build quality and durability of its tools, and this one just backs that up. It is really on top and cuts effortlessly, even over several millimeters. It must be said that it combines very long handles and exceptionally sharp blades. And that in addition, the adjustment of the spacing of these blades is both precise and simple. As is often the case with this brand, you have to pay a lot of money to pay for it, but it is a very good investment considering its efficiency and its ability to serve for many years!
stanley

To meet all needs! This lever from Stanley is cleverly available in several versions, the smallest being content with a length of 350mm while the most powerful is 1050mm long. Despite their difference in capacity, all models are made of forged steel for excellent resistance and offer 2 different types of cut: axial or flush. Adjusting the jaws is very easy thanks to the presence of eccentric screws, and they also have protection against loosening. Despite their long tubular arms to provide as little effort as possible, these pliers with ergonomic handles are still quite light and, above all, as pleasant as they are comfortable to hold.
My opinion : If you are looking for a value for money bolt cutter, I would recommend this range from Stanley. Certain details such as the tubular handles or the rivets that are a bit difficult to maneuver make me think that these tools could reach their limits too easily in the context of fairly intensive professional use… But for everything else, it really is. the job perfectly. Their build quality is pretty good, their cutting ability is just as good, and they come at quite reasonable prices. In any case, much more accessible for a person who wants to be well equipped! If you find yourself in this case, I would tell you not to hesitate, you should not be disappointed. Especially since you can also easily choose the model that will be most useful to you.
Knipex 71 72 910
Editor’s note: 4.5 / 5 | Reward : See the price on Amazon
High cutting power and low physical effort! The Knipex 71 72 910 is part of the line of versatile bolt cutters that can be used both professionally and at home. With its length of 900 mm, its possibilities of use are numerous, and it also has the particularity of having a screwed and interchangeable cutting head. Its induction-hardened blades offer exceptional cutting quality and thanks to the very flat shape of the head, access to metal parts is greatly facilitated. With its eccentric screws, it can also be adjusted precisely and in 12 different positions. Finally, its long handles give it an excellent ratio of the force exerted while maintaining perfect ergonomics and obviously being non-slip.
My opinion : This Knipex had no trouble finding its place in this selection: with its fairly reasonable weight of 5kg and its ability to easily cut around 10-15mm, it is also an excellent model. Whether on your construction site or at home, you will appreciate its quality of manufacture and its excellent solidity. Its jaw is very powerful and the brand was right to point out that its flat head was practical: it is never difficult to access the element you want to drop. Its length also allows it to perfectly multiply the force and therefore you do not have to worry about this side either. For the price at which it is displayed, I clearly cannot say that everyone can afford it, but on the other hand, it is even less so in a Facom and therefore we can see it as a good alternative.
SAMS #2
Editor’s note: 4.5 / 5 | Reward : See the price on Amazon
Solid and practical to use! Unlike other bolt cutters, this SAM #2 has only one adjustment screw for blade spacing, making it easier and faster. Entirely in forged steel, it can boast of being undeformable. It has been designed to withstand all situations and easily find its place on construction sites, for example. Thanks to its firmly riveted blades as well as its length of 760 mm, it is also capable of cutting up to 16 mm in diameter, allowing multiple uses. Finally, it weighs only 4 kg and has sheathed handles for the most comfortable grip possible.
My opinion : If I had to find a way to quickly describe this SAM #2, I would say a good compromise between weight and power. It’s not the sharpest you’ll find, but at the same time it’s more compact than some models and once in the thick of the action it works quite well. Cutting metal parts of several millimeters in diameter is no problem for it and since it weighs only 4 kg, the work is immediately more pleasant. If your leverage needs aren’t too great, this isn’t a tool you need to use on a daily basis, so it might be of interest to you. Especially since it appears below the 100 € mark!
Knipex 71 32 200
Editor’s note: 4.5 / 5 | Reward : See the price on Amazon
Small but strong! The Knipex 71 32 200 has been designed to multiply the strength of the hand without being bulky. Much more efficient than a simple cutter, it is only 200mm long, weighs only 400g but is capable of cutting metal parts up to 5.2mm in diameter (such as nails, rivets, etc. ). Its high, sharp blades made of high-performance induction-hardened chrome-vanadium also know how to be practical since a notch present allows optimal positioning when it comes to activating a leverage effect. Versatile, these pliers also have a gripping jaw for pulling wires or pulling nails. Finally, it is equipped with an opening spring for more comfortable work, as well as handles with a multi-material coating for a perfectly secure grip.
My opinion : With this Knipex, we are certainly in a mini bolt cutter, but do not judge it by its size! For home use it seems really perfect to me, it’s my little crush and honestly it’s a tool that I would recommend to everyone to have at home. So yes, for sure it is not able to cut beyond 5mm, but in many situations (fence wire, screw, nail, etc.) it is enough. In particular because although its handles are quite small (compared to the other models in this selection), it cuts without having to force it. It’s also a good brand and the build quality is there. Light, handy and economical, it will easily find its place in your toolbox!
