Here is a real beast of a lawn mower. The John Deere X165 is one of the most powerful mowers on the market, at least among non-professional or semi-professional units. This mower has many great features but also a very high price tag, costing just over £3000. However, compared to the X135 there is a slight difference in price, although the X165 beats the others.
Starting with the engine, as always, we see that the X165 has a B&S two-cylinder OHV engine. It is rated at 13.3 kW and can produce a whopping 3,350 rpm. With the blade spinning so fast, there’s no grass or weeds this mower can’t cut. Add to that a 48 inch deck and you’ll be done with the biggest and toughest lawns before tea time.
Again, as we’ve seen with the other models, this machine has a curvaceous deck and powerful suction. A curved mower deck and suction power means the grass can be lifted and the blade can cut it cleanly, leaving a very clean and even lawn. The suction also cleans the cutting deck of clippings, so any minor maintenance is required to keep this mower upright. You can also mulch, eject or bag the grass and you get a 230 liter bag for mulching and collecting.
Like the X135, the X165 has some features that make it easy to use. For starters, you get the same anti-slip, anti-vibration rubber soles, plus an adjustable seat. It also has cruise control, so you can set the pace and focus on steering. The X165 is a fairly manoeuvrable machine, with a 45cm turning radius that will allow you to move between trees and flowerbeds.
Overall, the X165 is an excellent mower. It has it all: power, maneuverability, 3-in-1 cutout removal. It comes with a price, but it’s easy to see why the lawnmower costs so much when you consider its excellent features.
