It is known as the sphinx of death, moth of death or moth of death because it has a design similar to a human skull on its thorax and it is a moth that can reach up to 12 cm in height. length.

Eggs are usually laid in plants of the nightshade family, under their leaves, such as peppers, tomatoes, eggplants, tobacco, potatoes, even cannabis, and their voracity is so great that they can kill the plant in a short time. The caterpillars are very striking, green in color in the early larval stages then turning yellow. It will therefore be difficult for us to identify it at first. It also has a kind of tail, which all caterpillars that are sphinxes have.
As you can see in the image above, the caterpillar of death is quite pretty and when it is this color it is still small compared to what it will become. It’s nice to see the process of its growth, but it’s clear that if there is too much of it, it would already be a pest and it is better to use Bacillus thuringiensis to control it. Death moth can pollinate plants because they love nectar and also its smell is similar to bees, so it can trick them and sneak into the hive to suck the tasty honey. Her life is full of danger as you can see because the bees can find out and sting her to death. There are many legends associated with the death butterfly, especially bad luck which are obviously not true. Nevertheless, it seems to me that it has its charm and that it is a species worthy of admiration.
