What steps should be taken to plant palm trees in pots? These plants, given that they have adventitious roots and are not very strong, are quite delicate when it comes to transplanting them, which is why I recommend that you follow the advice that I am going to give you throughout this article .
And that’s how your plants can start growing again much sooner than expected.
How to plant potted palms step by step?

To plant them in pots, the first thing to do is wait for spring to arrive. It is important that the day you decide to do it, the weather is good and the wind does not blow too much. Also, to prevent the stone plant from being overwatered, you should plant it in its new container in a location that is not in direct sunlight at the time. For this you will need the following:
- Flower pot: It must be at least 7 centimeters wider and higher than the one you currently have. It must also have holes in its base.
- Substrate: you can buy a specific one for green plants (on sale here), or one for universal cultivation like this one.
- watering can with water: after planting it, you will need to water it.
And now all you have to do is follow this step by step:
Fill the pot with a little substrate
Usually you should fill it half full or a little less, but To be sure, I recommend that you take the palm tree -without removing it from the pot- and insert it into the new one to find out how much soil you need to add. so that it fits you well (i.e. neither too low nor too high compared to the rim of the new container).
Then carefully remove the palm tree from the old pot. If it’s small, you might be able to hold it with one hand while you take the plant out with the other, but if not, take the palm tree by the base of the trunk or stem, and tap the edge of the pot so that it falls. If the roots have grown out a lot and become intertwined, you must untangle them before proceeding with the removal of the palm tree; and in the event that there is a thick root, it is better to break the container.
Put it in the new jar
Now you have to put it in its new pot. Place it in the center and make sure it is at the correct height, because it would not be good for the surface of the clod (or clod) to be above the edge of the container, or much below. In fact, it is recommended that it be 1 centimeter or less below the edge. With this, it will be enough so that the water does not go to waste when it is watered.
finish filling
Then, all that remains is to add substrate so that it is well planted. It is important to compact the above a little so that there are no air pockets. With this, in addition, you can add the amount you really need. But yes, do not miss it: the trunk must be exposed, otherwise it will rot.
water your palm tree
You have to water consciously, i.e. until the substrate is soaked. Therefore, you need to add water until the unabsorbed water comes out of the drainage holes.

In addition to doing it in the spring, or at the latest at the beginning of the summer, there are a few additional details that must be taken into account so that everything goes well. For example, Only palms that are already fully rooted in the container they now have will be changed to a potOtherwise, removing them will cause the root bread to collapse and they may not recover. How do you know if they have or not? Well, that’s easy: just see if they have roots sticking out of the pot.
Another important thing is that plants must be healthy. Contrary to what can happen with others, if a diseased palm tree is taken out of the pot and planted in another thinking that it will recover, it will most likely die and it will die fairly quickly. I say this from my own experience. If you suspect that your plant is in poor condition, find out if it is thirsty or, conversely, overwatered, a pest or disease, and take the necessary measures to recover it with the exception of the transplant (unless you have it in a pot without holes or inside a pot, in which case you will have to plant it in a pot that has holes in its base).
As you can see, it’s not that it’s difficult to plant a palm tree in a pot, but if it’s not done well, you risk losing it. Therefore, it is advisable to follow the advice that I have offered you here so that everything goes well and there are no surprises.
