Today I’m talking about The synergistic garden: a guide for budding gardeners to rediscover the gifts of the earth, a book by Marina Ferrara . I read this text a few years ago and it has been on display in my bookstore for some time, alongside Emilia Hazelip’s seminal “Synergic Agriculture”. Without guilt I only examine it now, when it would have deserved immediate consideration… Unfortunately, time is never enough.
But let’s come to the text: finally a beautiful Italian book dedicated to the synergistic garden! I liked this quick synergistic garden manual so much that I contacted you to ask you to write about the Orto Da Coltivare. Luckily he agreed and now he will introduce us to the synergistic garden here as well.
Marina is a passionate communicator and it shows in the pages of the book: her writing is fluid and very clear. From the first pages is able to convey contagious enthusiasm and at the same time give us the deep motivations Why start farming? The book begins with a theoretical part » Orthopedic escape theory which speaks so much of personal choices ( why an orchard ) and the story of the Synergistic Method, between Fukuoka and the aforementioned Hazelip.
After the first 40 pages, we move on to the second part, where the title” hands on the ground makes us realize that we are moving on to something more concrete. Besides writing, Marina Ferrara has also great growth experience behind his back, which is very clear from this practical part of the book, full of suggestions and very useful charts They summarize a lot of important information. A manual to read all at once and also to have on hand for reference during fieldwork.
To separate the didactic parts, there are passages of a » garden diary ”, which, although with a narrative cut, reinforce and expand the practical advice. In general, in the book Marina explains and tells at the same time, which makes reading very pleasant.
if we want to do a critic the black and white of the edition penalizes the photos of the interior a little, and the too basic graphics crush the paintings… This book would have deserved more aesthetically. On the other hand, this simplicity makes it possible to have a low price and therefore affordable for several people.
