The Pippin apple is an ancient variety of apple of unknown origin. Its first classifications appear in the 16th century in France, which is why it is generally associated with this region.
In fact, the best known variety, although its name suggests otherwise (Pippin from Canada) is the typical variety of France.
There are other important varieties, such as the one grown in northern Spain (in Bierzo) or Germany, which is longer and has a darker skin. In general, it is a variety whose skin is green/yellowish turning brown and whose pulp is white.
The pippin apple is one of the least known and generally least consumed fruits in Europe, and of the apples, since there are other varieties such as the golden, the royal gala, the pink lady or the fuji, varieties a lot more ubiquitous in greengrocers or supermarkets.
