Makita SDS-plus

makita sds-plus rotary hammerThis Makita SDS-plus drill combines 3 different functions: classic drilling, drilling and chiseling. Thanks to its interchangeable quick-locking chucks, it can accommodate different types of bits for efficient work in all materials (in concrete for example, it is able to drill up to a depth of 26 mm). Equipped with an 800 W motor and a striking force of 2.4 joules, its speed is able to increase as the pressure exerted against the trigger increases, reaching a maximum of 1,200 rpm for the motor and 4,600 strokes per minute for the striking speed. With only 3 kg on the scale and a possible trigger lock, continuous work becomes more pleasant. Delivered in a metal box, it is finally also possible to obtain it in a Makpac box, the brand’s practical storage system.

My opinion : With this Makita SDS-plus, we are clearly at a very good price/quality ratio! If it has become my favorite puncher of the brand, it is because it is well designed, it is very effective and it is also offered at a very reasonable price. What I like most about this machine is the power of its motor (I had no trouble drilling into a load-bearing wall to make a slot, for example) and the fact that it has a anti-blocking system to avoid injuries. But it is also quite light, pleasant to the touch, manageable and very versatile thanks to the SDS-plus system. Even if this punch is not intended for professionals whose drilling / shearing needs are quite large, it will suit you very well if you are a craftsman or a great handyman!

Makita SDS-max

makita sds-max hammer drillWith its 1100W motor and its impact power of 8 joules, the Makita SDS-max has been designed to meet the expectations of construction professionals and the most demanding DIYers. With a rotational speed of up to 500 rpm and a maximum impact rate of 2,900 strokes/minute, it is capable of drilling up to 40 mm in concrete, for example. Electronically regulated (with 5 ranges of striking frequency), its speed is also constant. Equipped with AVT technology, vibrations are reduced to provide greater safety and greater comfort of use. Chiselling can also be done continuously thanks to the switch lock system. Finally, the machine incorporates the No Load system: the motor brakes when empty, which allows greater precision and avoids empty strokes.

My opinion : This Makita chip drill is primarily for people who are planning big DIY jobs at home or who need a powerful tool for large construction sites. Indeed, its price is not within everyone’s reach, but on the other hand, it perfectly combines power, performance and robustness. At almost 7kg, it’s clearly not the lightest, but its weight is still bearable, and it’s also what contributes to the general impression of solidity and gives confidence when it comes to attacking the concrete . In continuous work, I found that the vibrations were well managed and that the tool did not cause too much fatigue, which is also a plus. If you have specific work needs and are looking for a drill you can trust, this Makita is a great option!

Makita SDS-plus wireless

makita sds-plus cordless drillThis SDS-plus differs from other Makita rotary hammers in that it works cordless: its 36V motor is powered by two 18V batteries (with the possibility of mixing different amperages). This notably allows it to offer a rotation speed of up to 1,200 revolutions/minute and a stroke frequency of 4,800 strokes/minute max. Operating under the SDS-plus system, the change of accessory (drill or drill) is done without tools, it has 3 working modes (drilling, drilling and chiseling) and obviously works on all types of materials (its capacity of drilling in concrete is 26mm maximum). Since the machine is divided into 2 parts, the vibrations reaching the user are considerably reduced. But this is not the only element that guarantees more precise and pleasant work: the high-brightness LEDs are, in fact, ideally placed to illuminate the area to be drilled!

My opinion : Among cordless drills, this Makita SDS-plus is one of the best I’ve had the chance to try! In line with the brand’s tools, it is a powerful, solid and well-designed machine, pleasant to use on construction sites or at home. In this model, obviously, it is the fact of being able to use it in complete freedom, without having to manipulate the power cable, which I liked the most. But I also discovered that it had the advantage of not being too heavy (good grip and maneuverability) and of offering a result that meets expectations: it manages on its own, without forcing! This fairly affordable version doesn’t include a battery or charger in case you already have one at home, but it’s very easy to find one, and even add a Makpac if you want to store it easily. It is therefore an effective perforator that you can afford without fear!
