How is yellow jasmine
The first thing you need to know about yellow jasmine is that we are talking about Jasminum mesnyi, a garden species also sold in stores under other more common names such as Japanese jasmine, winter jasmine, spring jasmine or primrose jasmine.
He is originally from China and, as you might suspect, he is used to climbing. It is in fact a shrubby climbing vine that can easily reach three meters in height. evergreen, the flowering it has, of yellow color, can be produced throughout the year.
If we stop to see each element, we have to tell you that the leaves are opposite, lanceolate, and between three and seven centimeters long. They are shiny and deep green.
Regarding the stems, you will find that they are angular, that is, they differ from other plants in that they are not round. They are also a very bright green.
Finally, the flowers. These are semi-double and, as we told you, yellow. However, you should know that these jasmines generally do not give off an aroma. That’s to say, the flowers are not fragrant, as is the case with other jasmines. From them a fruit of black color and fleshy inside may appear.
Usually yellow jasmine is used in the garden or in pots.
Yellow Jasmine Treatment
You already know a little more about yellow jasmine. And it is possible that due to his difference from the others, he caught your attention. The truth is that its flowering is very beautiful and it can be grown as a normal plant or as a bonsai. But, in both cases, You need to know what the most important treatments are because, although it is resistant, it is not easy to be mistaken because you will end up dying.
Below we give you the keys to each of them.
location and temperature
Like any other jasmine, yellow jasmine needs to be outdoors. However, you don’t have to put it in direct sunlight. In fact, we don’t recommend it in any way because it can scorch the leaves (it’s not used to strong sun). It is best placed in a semi-shaded area where it receives several hours of direct sunlight only in the morning or afternoon (or both).
If you live in a very hot area, you must control very well where to put it because it can suffer from high temperatures, especially if the specimen is young.
Regarding the temperature, when the yellow jasmine is installed in time, you will have no problem with the heat. Nor with the cold, as it can tolerate temperatures down to -3°C (although some would tolerate -5°C); as long as it’s something sporadic and doesn’t last long.
We told you that the yellow jasmine must be “settled” to withstand the heat as it is common for young specimens and those purchased in spring and summer to have a lower tolerance for sun and high temperatures (as they have been in protected nurseries) and you may end up without the plant if you don’t pay attention.
Substrate
As for the soil, the truth is that yellow jasmine is not picky in this regard. A universal substrate with some drainage to make it lighter and more oxygenated will do well. Now when planting you need to add some manure to feed it.
As for the transplant, it must always be done at the end of winter (for the months of February or March). Try putting it in a slightly larger pot so that it grows well and if you see it growing too much, consider putting it in an area of the garden where it can take its natural course.
Irrigation
Irrigation of yellow jasmine is one of the most important cares and the one you may have the most trouble with. You see, this jasmine needs regular watering. Although it can tolerate very short periods of watering, it is not recommended, it is best to always water from spring to fall.
In winter, although it is watered, it must be more spaced and not abundant to avoid the appearance of fungus or the humidity to end up rotting the plant.
In addition to irrigation, in summer, if the temperatures are intense, the yellow jasmine appreciates having water sprayed on the leaves. Yes, it’s water without lime Because if it has it and you do it, the usual thing is that it prevents them from photosynthesising and then you would put the plant in serious trouble.
Subscriber
As we told you before, when yellow jasmine is planted, a little manure is usually added. And this fertilizer can be a good source of nutrients.
Our recommendation is to discard it every yearin the spring, a little manure and, after a month or two, start adding mineral fertilizer until the end of summer.
Then it is left to rest.
Size
If you want your yellow jasmine to be productive, give you lots of flowers, etc. you will have to prune them to remove faded flowers, dead or damaged parts, etc and thus promote flowering.
Plagues and diseases
Yellow jasmine, like many other jasmines, is quite weed and disease resistant. That doesn’t mean they don’t attack him, of course. It can be found with aphids, mealybugs or red spider mites, but it usually emerges victorious over them all.
Multiplication
Finally, about the propagation of yellow jasmine you should know that it is always done by cuttings. These are picked up at the end of summer and put in water or planted for rooting.
It is not always achieved, but it is one of the most used methods.
As you can see, yellow jasmine can be a beautiful addition to your garden. Would you dare to put it in your home?
