A homemade, natural fungicide is always good to have on hand. Indeed, one of the most important setbacks that we can encounter when caring for our plants is the appearance of fungi. These appear due to excess humidity and rising temperatures, especially in spring.

These fungi usually wreak havoc on our plants and can kill them, especially after a sudden storm and then the sun comes up. For this reason it is essential that we are vigilant on these days and if we see signs of fungi, act accordingly to try to eradicate them with one of the natural fungicides that we bring and teach you how to prepare and use them.

In this article I have compiled 7 homemade fungicides that we can do to fight fungus, any of them would be valid to fight them, and in some cases some are more powerful depending on the fungus we are try to deal with.

It is important that when spraying our plants we choose a quality sprayer. It must be taken into account that not all nozzles perform an even distribution of our fungicide, covering the entire leaf. It is also important to choose a good time to spray, avoiding among other measures the middle of the day. As always, I recommend MATABI sprayers for these cases.

Without a doubt, nettle manure is a must in the garden, and for me the best homemade fungicide you can prepare for your garden. 2.- PONYTAIL

Horsetail is one of the allied plants of the garden. It helps us prevent fungal attacks, strengthens the cellular system of plants and provides nutrients. It can be used both preventively and curatively, in case of mold, powdery mildew, rust, botrytis and canker. It is also important to know that we can combine it with nettle purine.

We have two ways to make it into horsetail manure or horsetail infusion, the difference is that we can store horsetail manure to use for months, while the infusion should be used immediately.

5.- Nasturtium tea

Nasturtium, also known as queen taco, is known as a trap plant, i.e. it is a plant that is placed in the garden so that pests attack it first and leave our culture in peace, however it is also a very interesting plant to prepare in infusion which is a useful homemade fungicide to fight against fungi such as mold, powdery mildew, botrytis and the chancre. Nasturtium tea also serves as a repellent against whiteflies and aphids.

6.- CINNAMON FOR SEEDLING

The most delicate moment for our plants is when we prepare the seedbed. We care so much that they develop perfectly that we sometimes water these nurseries too much. If we add to this that they are normally kept in closed places to have good temperatures, the humidity index is high and small whitish layers can appear in our seedlings which can kill our plants. To fight against this fungus or white mold you can use cinnamon powder as a natural fungicide and kill them as I explain in this video:

7.- BROTH BORDEAUX

Bordeaux mixture is a mixture of copper sulphate (10 g) and calcium hydroxide (20 g) in one liter of water. Although it is a homemade fungicide, the ingredients are not found naturally and are not as easily obtained as the previous ones, but it is nevertheless a very powerful fungicide. It is essential to prepare it outdoors and you have to be very careful in the preparation, as in the case of milk, it is important not to overdo it when spraying as this can burn the plants. It can be used as a preventive measure to combat downy mildew, especially vine, blight, canker and botrytis.

natural fungicide

In any case, if the fungi have in many cases invaded a large part of our plant, sometimes it is more interesting than using a homemade fungicide to carry out a size of affected parts and throw them away, trying to save the rest of the plant. That’s why it’s important to act the moment you start to see signs or after a storm or excess humidity.

There are also ecological remedies on the market that can be purchased and used, such as powdered sulfur, in particular to combat powdery mildew or copper oxychloride to combat mildew, which serve as preventive measures and are accepted in organic farming.

I hope this compilation of natural fungicides will help you fight your fungi in the garden and that your plants will be little affected.
